The Editor's Blog is refreshed 2 or 3 times a month depending on the news and we Tweet from @johnstrak when a new Blog is published - and we email those registered on our site.

The front page of the April 2012 issue deals with the latest US Hogs and Pigs report and the trend in the US breeding herd. The consolidation of the German slaughterhouse sector is tabulated on page 2 along with a table collating the latest EU forecasts of pig numbers. Page 3’s analysis of the Global Pig Price Index describes some warning signs in the global pig price cycle. An interview with JSR's chairman and a visit to JSR Genetics by Whole Hog takes up pages 4 and 5.  Page 6 describes the most recent EU pig price changes with comparison charts. Canada’s pork exports rebounded at the beginning of 2012 and are shown on page 7. Page 8 illustrates how US pork  exports have begun 2012. The Australian trade data  for January 2012 show a jump in imports from Canada and the USA. Japanese imports are still growing at the beginning of 2012 and are shown on page 10. On the same page South Korean pork imports are also seen to grow but are levelling off. News in Short on page 11 includes reports on Cranswick, Sofina Foods purchase of the Ontario Fearmans Pork plant from Sun Capital,  Zhongpin's 2011 results, and a report on steroids in pigs in Vietnam. The back page sets out the Short View on pig prices and the Global Price Monitor.
