The front page of the October 2010 issue reports the US Hogs and Pigs data – in decline again. Page 2 describes the UK’s sow herd on a rising trend although prices are declining. Page 3 shows the global pig price cycle heading for a five year peak. Pages 4 and 5 report on the proceedings of the Wold Meat Congress in Argentina – a sustainable future but non-tariff barriers are a concern. On Page 6 the Danes, French and Irish see higher prices in Europe. The Polish breeding herd appears to be on a recovery path on page 7. Canada's exporters demonstrate growth in their overseas sales on page 8. Page 9 sees modest growth in US pork exports also. Page 10 illustrates the taste for US pork that Australian consumers seem to be getting. Page 11 describes a faltering South Korean market – except for Chilean imports and also reports the growing Japanese market with the Canadians expanding their market share. News in Short on page 12 covers the Danish view of the forthcoming EU ban on sow stalls, the Austrian pig census, Danish live pig exports Russian pork imports, the French pig herd inventory, and Spanish pigmeat production. Page 13 sets out Company information for; Cargill’s pork and animal nutrition business and its new Sow Innovation Centre in Kentucky, Maple Leaf Foods’  plans to build a new prepared meats facility, and  Cherkizovo’s acquisition of a meat plant in Kaliningrad. The Global Price Monitor table with prices for 17 countries is also provided on page 13.
