We put our Latest Headlines on the site from the most recent issue of Whole Hog Brief so you will know what we are covering this month - we suggest you register on the site and we will email you when these headlines are changed each month as new issues are published. The Editor's Blog is refreshed 2 or 3 times a month depending on the news and we Tweet from @johnstrak when a new Blog is published - and we email those registered on our site.

The front page of the August 2012 issue reports the latest Danish pig census. The analysis of the world’s commodity scene is set out in the FAO Outlook report and this is described on pages 2 and 3.  Page 4’s analysis of the Global Pig Price Index describes the confused state of the pig price cycle at the moment. Page 5 sets out recent trends in Europe’s pig prices as supplies tighten.  Canada’s exports are up but the Asian markets are weak on page 6. The USA’s export growth is fading but Mexican sales are up on page 7. The damage being done to Australia’s trade gap in pigmeat by its strong currency is shown on page 8.  Page 9 illustrates how Japan’s import demand is slowing. Ditto for South Korea on page 10 as this market fades rapidly. News in short covers; dire warnings of supply cutbacks in the UK pig sector, PIC/Genus successes in the Philippines and a personnel change for PIC Europe., Zhongpin and Cargill’s results, Gyulai Huskombinat’s financial problems in Hungary, the USDA’s intent to buy pork as part of a drought-relief measure, ASF in Russia and the Ukraine, and a drop in the number of pigs slaughtered in Germany.
